Hit-and-Run Collision in Yakima County

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

On Monday, July 13, 2026, at 3:20 a.m., a serious injury hit-and-run collision occurred on eastbound I-82 near Union Gap in Yakima County. Luis Vazquez Del Angel, walking near the eastbound lanes, was struck from behind by a vehicle that fled the scene. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to MultiCare Memorial Hospital.

WSP Detectives are seeking information about the incident, including details about a 2020-2025 Ford F-Series pickup with front or driver-side damage, including a damaged tow mirror. The vehicle continued eastbound on I-82 after the collision. Det. Patrick Lockwood can be contacted at (509)249-6743 or the WSP tip line at (509)249-6700.

The Plum Point Fire, burning 150 acres in Lincoln County near Grand Coulee, has prompted a state fire mobilization. Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the request of Fire Chief Ryan Fish. The fire, which began July 15 at 5:27 p.m., threatens homes and power lines but has no evacuations in place. State resources are being coordinated to aid containment.

WSP also arrested Michael A. Rees, 34, of Port Orchard, following an undercover investigation. Rees allegedly discussed paying $1,000 to have sex with a juvenile during online conversations in May 2026. He was arrested after arranging a meeting at a Tacoma hotel on June 25, 2026.
