The City of Bremerton will install a traffic calming device at the intersection of Almira Drive and Clemens Street after a speed study revealed drivers were regularly exceeding the posted 25 mph speed limit.
The measure, known as a chicane, will narrow the roadway and require drivers to navigate slight bends using paint and delineators. The city describes it as a "quick-build" solution, meaning it can be installed relatively quickly by city crews using low-cost materials. Installation is expected to take place this spring, weather permitting.
The speed study was conducted in December 2025 as part of the city's recently adopted Traffic Calming Policy, which provides a framework for responding to speeding concerns on local roads.
The quick-build chicane is intended as a temporary fix. Permanent roadway improvements are planned as part of the upcoming Phase 2 View Ridge Elementary – Almira Safe Routes project.
