The City of Bremerton is installing a traffic-calming measure on Almira Drive at Clemens Street after a December 2025 speed study found drivers were exceeding the posted 25 mph limit. The installation is expected to be completed this spring, weather permitting, by city crews.
The measure, known as a chicane, uses paint and delineators to narrow the roadway and create slight bends in the travel path, requiring drivers to slow down as they navigate the curve. The project was approved under the city's recently adopted Traffic Calming Policy.
The chicane is described as a "quick-build" solution. A more permanent fix is planned as part of the upcoming Phase 2 View Ridge Elementary – Almira Safe Routes to School project, which will include full roadway improvements at the location.
